Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha on Friday (September 6) called on all Asean members to join forces to move their economies forward so they can overcome ongoing trade wars.

He made this remark in an opening speech at the 51st Asean Economic Ministers Meeting, which runs from September 5 to 10 in Bangkok.

Prayut also said he expects the negotiations on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) to be completed this year and signed next year.

RCEP is a proposed free trade agreement between the 10 Asean member states and its six free-trade partners, namely China, Japan, India, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

He added that Thailand, which is chairing Asean this year, is ready to work with other members of the grouping to strengthen the Asean community so it can deal with the fast-changing world of technology as well as meet challenges presented by global trade and a rising awareness of ecological conservation.

And of course, no ASEAN nation doesn't have economic strengthening as its No 1 priority! ???? Talk about stating the bleedin' obvious, without actually suggesting how they are going to "join forces" beyond the loose coalition of nations that exists now. Neighbouring countries such as Thailand and Malaysia accepting each other's currencies in all banks, for instance, might be a step in the right direction.....????

And how about showing a little more ASEAN solidarity against the increasingly aggressive predations of China in the region, from the Mekong to the South China Sea?

Stop telling others what to do and get on with governing.

Is he now commanding his neighbours?

The cheek of the man having the disrespect to tick off his fellow ASEAN members. Most other ASEAN economies are doing rather nicely thank you. Almost all of them except Thailand that is.

The man is delusional. The Chairmanship of ASEAN has gone to his head. What an embarrassment to his country he is. He shouldn't be allowed out.

GDP growth:

Myanmar 7.0%

Vietnam 6.8%

Cambodia 6.8%

Malaysia 5.9%

Indonesia 5..2%

Singapore 3.2%

Thailand 2.5/3%...if they are lucky!

Brunei 0.1%

That's only "hot air". He can't be trusted.

What you lot failed to

understand was that in reality he was telling ASEAN members to do more business with Thailand to pull Thailand out from going into recession as he and his economic team have zero clue what to do or how to do it.

Can only hope ASEAN members told him to stop taxing their goods unfairly

Translation:  General Prayut advising neighbours to fall in line as a colony of Communist China.  As proof, just look how high the Baht as soared vs. Western currencies.

He and Somkid need an Alibaba account.  From what I can see, Vietnam will be the huge winner in the trade war.  The Chinese are moving their production there.   Thailand has been caught flat footed.

The only thing I have to say is: 55555!  You funny man!

Most are doing fine without his help... he needs to sort out his own back garden first before offering opinions across the borders.
