The Anti-Corruption Organization of Thailand has expressed confidence that the government would save up to Bt142.76 billion thanks to two anti-graft mechanisms.

Vichai Assarasakorn, vice president of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and of the anti-corruption organisation, said the two tools were initiated through cooperation between the Comptroller General’s Department and the private sector and have been in use since 2015.

By the end of this year, the two tools – the IP (Integrity Pact) and the CoST (Construction Sector Transparency Initiative) – would help the country prevent losses of Bt142.76 from corruption, Vichai said.

He said the IP tool would help the country save Bt97 billion and the CoST tool BtBt37.45 billion and added that the two tools use some 230 voluntary observers to monitor projects to prevent corruption.

The success of the two tools prompted the Anti-Corruption Organization of Thailand to plan to expand their use to other mega government projects.

Yanee Saengsrichan, an advisor to the financial system development of Comptroller General’s Department, said that since the IP and CoST projects came into effect in 2015, they have saved the government some Bt83.138 billion that might have been wasted in pay offs.

Hmm, what with that 'crossed arms' logo?

I'm sure this is more likely to be the reality:

What a great initiative, this represents a significant percentage of the national budget, similar to that the government forgot to allocate last year. Although spread across the economy it is still a significant sum or money.

Now does he really expect the people who benefit from the corruption at the top end  to endorse the tools that could result in their political demise, loss of income and/or loss of face?

Maybe they could pledge it to rice farmers!

142 billion, minus the customary 30% "commission", of course.

Great - more money to buy submarines and helicopters for a nice kickback ????

By whom are these "230 voluntary observers" going to be appointed?

The only tool needed here is a monkey wrench!

Why don't they achieve something?

Wow they are going prevent the loss of 142.76 Baht that's outstanding work and a big plus for the current administration, well done I say.Maybe next year the could reach 200 Baht!

Ah..so they have invented the mega automatic brown envelopes (MABE) counting machine at long last.

Legions of Thais have been working on it's development over the past few decades.

No sharp tools in the graft box is there????

They're all tools in the graft box. Some just aren't very smart.

The tools don't seem to be able to make even the smallest dent in the corruption that goes on in the schools and the RTP let alone within the ranks of the politicians and senior bureaucrats of the country.

Haven't the tools heard about Rolls Royce and Thai Airways and other hushed up scams that go on every day in the civil service?

Like the one where they stole money from the destitute and disabled but it took a young student tool to expose them.

Yes. Panida Yotpanya a 22 year-old. What a great girl with determination.

Panida stood by her complaints about how officials at the Khon Kaen Protection Centre for the Destitute suspiciously signed documents to claim reimbursements for funds that should have gone to the destitute.

If they where serious about corruption, they would Digitize the Government instead of doing everything on Paper. It's easy for the paper trail to disappear and much harder for Data on servers and Network Storage to disappear.

Two tools in charge of reducing corruption.. not the best way of putting it !

Bt142 billion - a staggeringly high tip of the iceberg!

I suppose in a government populated by 'tools' 2 more won't make a significant difference!
