Prime Minister Hun Sen yesterday said the Kingdom should begin providing free medical treatment to foreign workers in order to kick start reciprocal treatment for migrants working abroad.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the third Ministerial Conference on Labour Cooperation in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam (CLMTV) under the theme of “Toward Labour Protection of Migrant Workers in CLMTV: Cooperation on Social Protection Sector” in Siem Reap province, Mr Hun Sen said the Kingdom wants Cambodian migrant workers in other countries to receive free treatment. “Cambodia should implement free-of-charge medical treatment for foreign workers in our country because we also want our workers working in other CLMTV countries to receive reciprocal free treatment,” he said.

Mr Hun Sen noted that CLMTV countries have always paid attention to the well-being of migrant workers through the implementation of policies to protect them, respect their rights and providing good working conditions, in line with Asean standards and international treaties. Him Yun, Coalition for Integrity and Social Accountability director, yesterday said that since ancient times Cambodians, as hosts, warmly welcome and pay high attention to the needs of foreign guests.
