Thai caption: Child buried by the road

A Thai man went to investigate after a neighbor told him that he had seen a woman digging by the side of the road in a Bangkok suburb at 3 am on Monday night.

Thawatchai, 34, got out his spade and dug and found a 4-5 month old male foetus wrapped in a white towel with a flowery pattern. The umbilical cord was still attached.

By the makeshift grave in Soi Sridan 9/3 were burnt out joss-sticks. He called the Samrong Neua police whose investigations showed that there had been no pregnant women in the immediate vicinity.

They concluded that the child was either aborted or miscarried.

DNA checks have been ordered and the woman who left the boy there is being sought.

thats really sad

Tragic scenario... I hope it was a miscarriage & the mother did the only thing she could think of at the time and bury the baby with some sort of ceremony !

So sad, I trust the woman has been able to access competent medical support.

The fact that this had to happen for what ever reason, is a reflection on how desperate and isolated the woman must have felt.
