Gareth Thomas: Journalist revealed HIV status to rugby legend's parents

Former rugby player Gareth Thomas has revealed a journalist broke the news he had HIV to his parents before he had spoken to them about it.

 

He said he would "absolutely not" have made his diagnosis public if a tabloid had not made threats to publish it.

 

The ex-Wales captain broke the news on Saturday, the day before finishing an Ironman triathlon.

 

Thomas was speaking a day after cricketer Ben Stokes criticised the Sun for running a story about his family.

This and the Stokes news incident are shameful and disgusting.

I'm all for free press, freedom of press etc, but there HAS TO BE some form of ethics committee and rules.

And newspapers, and their journalists have to be held accountable for a lack of ethics in their reporting.

This is just gutter press. Sensationalist bottom feeding gutter press.

If i had my way, both journalists and editors would be in prison for a year for this.
