Finance Ministry - Donations through government to provide more channels to help flood victims

 

   

BANGKOK, 19 September 2019 (NNT) - The Ministry of Finance announced that the government’s fundraising efforts will create more channels for people interested in helping flood victims, adding that the government’s flood relief funds are in line with the law.

 

Fiscal Policy Office (FPO) Director Lawaron Saengsanit, in his capacity as the Spokesman for the Finance Ministry, explained that the government’s fundraising program was a collaboration involving all sectors.

 

The donated money will be distributed to the flood victims as well as those who already received assistance from the government. The special program was another channel for members of the public who wish to contribute, and it is not because the ministry does not have funds available to help the flood victims.

 

By the end of last month, the government had 512.27 billion baht in reserves. This amount was sufficient to carry out the various government policies.

 

The law stipulates that the governmental allowance for victims of emergency disasters must be sufficient and can be disbursed to help the victims promptly. According to the Finance Ministry’s regulation, each provincial governor has the authority to allocate 20 million baht from the allowance.

Being in line with the law is no guarantee that all of the funds handled by the government will find their way to flood victims.

It would be nice to think otherwise but knowing the track record of redirection of funds within the civil service there is some element of risk. The destitute an disabled will attest to that.

Anyway, fingers crossed that honesty prevails.

In line with the law? Hard to take that seriously when you cherry pick which laws to abide by.  

Why dont they use money from the  512.27 billion baht they have in reserves,

they are not shy when it comes to buying tanks,planes,ships etc.,

on Wednesday some affected have received bags containing same very small portions of food, oil, fish souse - all expired by up to 4.5 years.
