Pro-democracy body calls on UN to look into Thailand’s ‘military govt in disguise’

The Association of Thai Democrats without Borders’ president Jaran Ditapichai wrote to the United Nations on Monday (September 23) asking it to look into the government of General Prayut Chan-o-cha.

 

  

Jaran personally dropped the missive at a letterbox near the UN headquarters in New York and recorded the action with a selfie next to an anti-government sign saying: “Don’t Let Democracy Die in Thailand!” 

 

Prayut was in New York on Monday to attend a UN meeting themed “Galvanising Multilateral Efforts for Poverty Eradication, Quality Education, Climate Change and Inclusion”. 

 

In the letter addressed to the UN, Jaran described the administration as a military government in disguise, which has direct control over several state institutions such as the Senate, the Constitutional Court, Criminal Courts and the Election Commission. The pro-democracy association also called on the UN to seek a “Thailand Status Update on Current Political Situation”. 

 

Meanwhile, Prayut met expat Thai supporters living in New York.

The 'Ja New' attackers could be called in for furher action soon, unfortunately.

All know, there is nothing they can do or will do , the current personnel will be ousted in the next election, time is running out for all who rolled over,

date of the next election will have the appeased folly rewarded 

with zero /  nil votes. 

Wow!  Someone had the gonads to call out the pseudo democratic government now operating in Thailand...this will not go over well...look for heads to eventually roll...literally...????

Great legs!!

He might have a long wait for any action on this one the U N are about as useful as an ashtray on a motor bike, good for five star hotels and big nosh ups though.

Too true, but in ticking the UN box, one can say: I tried everything.   That could lead to more aggressive action or just a better night's sleep.  It got news exposure.

Only the Thai voter can do that... if they ever wake up to reality!

There are  more than you think but  most are  not inside  Thailand.

Look forward to all the Photos of him shaking hands with World leaders, the US President and diplomats.

Nice points and I'm guessing there is the possibility of a knee jerk reaction from the 'pm' or the army chief to this letter and even to have the man 'brought in'.

 

In fact I hope that happens and the activist involved probably does also (but of course with no violence and not more than a very short time period of being 'called in') because it will openly display that the pm / the government has no intention of respecting the law and is in fact just another junta with a silly mask.

 

A mask that I believe, and I hope, will totally collapse in the not too distant future.

Even if they were interested, the problems in Thailand would be last on the list of the world's problems that need to be sorted out. As long as there is peace in Thailand, irrespective of how it came about, no one outside its borders sees any problems. Thailand's problems need to be sorted out in Thailand by Thai people.  

Excellent, this "elected" government can use any scrutiny it can get. My guess is that not much will happen until they've screwed up the economy enough for people to care. Just a question of when, in my opinion, not if: The climate (world economy) isn't favorable at all, and these clowns in charge will make sure that Thailand will fare worse than other countries.

Funny post. Is this supposed to actually accomplish something? The UN is not busy enough? High on their agenda? The really funny part is the meeting he attended.

Poverty eradication- He and his administration are doing absolutely everything in their power to make sure the elite remain elite, and the general population remains poor.

Quality education - absolutely nothing is being done to improve the educational system in Thailand, which needs a complete overhaul, needs thorough testing procedures to judge the competency of teachers, needs to figure out a way to get the students to start questioning the teachers, so they can develop their minds, and a sense of curiosity, and needs to start failing poor students, rather than passing them so they do not anger the parents. Everything about the system is broken, and this administration does not have the juice or the vision to fix it.

Climate change- They cannot even handle the burning season here. They have half of the power stations in the nation running on oil, some on diesel. Thailand is one of the few nations in the world that still encourages the sale of diesel vehicles, when they are being shunned worldwide. No doubt many car manufacturers pass of most of their diesel vehicles off onto Thailand, which just does not seem to know any better. 

Inclusion- What is being done to the ex-pat community here? Extreme xenophobia, racism, fear of the outside world, and hatred on the part of the administration and immigration, is forcing tens of thousands of ex-pats to find greener pastures, where we do not feel like pariahs. Inclusion? Is this a joke? 

 

Bottom line? This administration is the most inferior, and least competent in recent memory. They are serving no useful function for Thai society. They are self serving to the extreme.
