Democracy protesters nag Prayut in New York

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s speech to the Asia Society in New York on Wednesday (September 25) local time was briefly interrupted by shouted protests from a Thai former student activist.

Nachacha Kongudom had in Thailand been among demonstrators using “three-finger salutes” in demanding the election that was several times delayed before being held in March.

In New York, she managed to get a protest sign into the building where Prayut was speaking and shouted at him before being escorted out by security guards.

Prayut responded to her action by saying, “Hello, thank you, thank you very much.”

Photos shared on social media indicated that other Thais were protesting outside the hall.

Prayut told the audience the military junta he led to power in the 2014 coup sought only to end a bloody political conflict and that the government it established approved 400 laws.

Prayut was in New York primarily to attend a meeting of the UN General Assembly.

Jaran Ditapichai, president of the Association of Thai Democrats without Borders, wrote to the United Nations on Monday asking that Prayut’s new administration be regarded as “a military government in disguise”.

A billboard mounted on a building close to UN headquarters carried the message “United Nations Assembly: Don’t let democracy die in Thailand”.

Did you just like a post saying these people might disappear if they return home? Are you okay with people being murdered for exercising free speech?

I'm surprised Prayut didn't take you to the UN with him. As his No 1 supporter and Tv's Prayut propaganderist surely he could do with at least one person to inflate his delusional ego.

....Or just polish his army boots.

Prayut could steal Steven's wallet and he would thank him for removing a pressure point from where most of his thinking originates.

'Prayut responded to her action by saying, “Hello, thank you, thank you very much.”'

I didn't know he has skills as an Elvis impersonator.

cha cha cannot argue effectively.  His military privilege negates that.  So the only way to get to him is by causing a ruckus.  Did not work out so well for Carrie Lam in Hong Kong.

At least someone is giving him a hard time. The locals here are rather complacent. He needs to hear this from someone.

He deserves all the scorn, ridicule and protests the people can muster up. It will happen eventually. Just a matter of time. He is really despised throughout the nation here. The army is beyond incompetent.

Protesters have a plan. make a noise, get noticed, claim asylum for fear if return.

I only see 5 in that photo !!

Did you help count the votes after the "election" too ????

Opinion only, but reading this thread I am beginning to wonder if this site is compromised by cyber black operation by the junta or others. Steven 100 is sounding odd in the replies and now a disconnect between the reporting of democracy demonstrators in New York. Either they are a group of non thai speaking Mexicans or they are Thai nationals with a history of activism.

(I hope I didn't post a link to an unapproved source)

No.

It is patently obvious that no is the answer to your imbecilic question.

Read the article, watch the videos and get back to us....

Jesus Wept steve, have you never stopped to consider or look beyond the fact that taksin is not responsible for the utter rage that many of the younger generation feel - Top tip learn to read Thai and then get yourself on one of the many twitter feeds. The youth of Thailand are furious with the political situation and some of them use humor very well to mock the government and its hypocrisy. Or do you think the 7 Million votes FFP got were paid for by Taksin.

Best news all week.  Young people are angry.  Thank goodness, as the elites in Thailand are just offering crumbs.

In April, saw a young Thai woman in Shenzhen learning Chinese and doing some art on the side.   If you play cha cha's game you will lose every time.  It is rigged for the wealthy and the military.   The average Thai is to be exploited.

Naturally! All to the benefit of the government and its ministers.
