I have declared my income taxes back home as a Non-Resident.

So I need to fill out an online form with one of my banks.

It's asking if I am a tax resident of another country.

Should I click Yes or No?

I clicked Yes, and it's asking me which country and for a TIN.

I clicked "I don't have a TIN" and I got this popup:

So should I click NO (ie I am not a tax resident of another country)?

Or do I need to get a TIN from Thailand and declare taxes here?

And how would I do that? Hire an accountant?

I don't really want to provide any false information to my country's tax folks and have any problems.

Any help is appreciated if you've had a similar issue.

Has the law forcing foreigners to file taxes in Thailand been implemented?

Realistically, how many foreigners have a TIN here and are reporting income from back home?

Banks seem overrated. I’m not sure why anyone bothers with them. And then all these questions about TIN. Rubbish. I keep it simple. All my money is in an empty 5 lb whey protein container in the back of my clothing closet, on the third shelf, right behind my boxer shorts. Nobody will ever know it’s there, let alone guess it.

I even put a lock on the closet door for extra security. I keep that simple too. The combination is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Nobody would ever guess that. It’s far too obvious. If anyone did manage to find the lock, they wouldn’t even try it.

They want a TIN because you say you aren't resident for tax so where are you paying tax, by saying you don't have a TIN you are saying you aren't paying tax elsewhere, can't do both

This topic has to be a windup. Nobody would ask such pedestrian questions. How could someone not know where to get a tax ID number from? Or not know that foreigners have been required to pay taxes in Thailand since 2024 on any income brought into the country. Don't take the bait.

I've seen people in other threads mention they are not paying taxes in Thailand ... YET ... so I assumed the law wasn't in place yet.

Or they may not be doing everything on the up and up.

Or they may be structuring it differently back home. I went the Non-Resident route.

So I got confused.
