BANGKOK(NNT) - The government is aiming to use state investments to help boost economic expansion amid the global slowdown. The Minister of Finance has ordered the State Enterprise Policy Office to expedite investment expenditure in this year’s final three months, with the total figure in this period to reach no less than 120 billion baht.

The Minister of Finance, Uttama Savanayana has delivered policies to the executives of the State Enterprise Policy Office (SEPO), the governing body of 56 state enterprises in Thailand, to help promote economic growth through investment, after total investment spending in the first nine months of 2019 was recorded at only 170 billion baht, just 47 percent of the allocated budget of 360 billion baht.

The SEPO has been instructed to streamline regulations and eliminate obstructions in order to allow state enterprises to adjust their investment plans easier and faster, finding new projects to replace discontinued ones, and reducing the number of mandatory steps for better agility, in order to benefit sooner from the planned 80 percent investment budget, or 120 billion baht in the remaining three months of this year to help encourage economic growth.

On the reduction of the 2019 GDP projection from 3 percent to 2.8 percent by the Bank of Thailand, the Minister of Finance said the government’s economic stimulation measures introduced previously have just started to have an economic impact, while some measures require longer to yield results.

He said the country is now unaffected by the trade war, and the government is trying to boost economic growth through investment and expenditure, which require cooperation from all sides to support continuing national economic growth.

How much does m2 of usable footpath cost?

Or placing those ugly, dangerous powerlines under ground?

Why the delay?

This kind of delay has occurred several times in recent years with the Prayut government.
