Hello, so I've heard some conflicting information on what is or may be required nowadays when acquiring a Thai SETV (in Vientiane) and entering back into Thailand.

1.   At the consulate you may need to show proof of 20,000 baht or more in a Thai bank account?

At the border you will need to show 20,000 baht cash?

2.   Proof of onward travel - where may you need to show this?  and can it be by land (Bus)?

3.   Proof of accommodation - where may you need to show this? and can it be at a friends place (or girlfriends)?

Thanks and I'm sorry if this has been asked before.  I haven't been able to find a clear answer

No. It can be a foreign bank account as long as the balance is at least the equivalent of 20K baht. Not many tourists have Thai bank accounts.

Yes, if asked, but it can be in a foreign currency or Travellers Cheques too.

They don't currently ask for proof of onward travel at Vientiane. An immigration officer at the border might ask to see onward travel booking and technically could allow a bus ticket.

Yes you can use a letter inviting you to stay at a Thai friends address.

Just an update.  I was asked for proof of funds (imm. officer asked for Thai bank account) at Vientiane Imm. when applying for a SETV.  glad I brought it.

There is no Thai immigration office in Vientiane.

I am sure you were at the consular section of the Thai embassy in Vientiane and was asked by a consular officer for the proof of funds.
