The public prosecutors have decided not to indict Future Forward party leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit and two other party members on charges of spreading false information to discredit members of the governing coalition, by claiming that some of its members were attempting to lure members of the other parties to defect from the Opposition.

The police charges against Thanathorn, Mr. Klaikong Waithayakarn and Ms. Jaruwan Sarunkate, registrar and executive member of the Future Forward party respectively, were related to the live stream of a talk show on June 29th 2018, during which Thanathorn criticized the now-defunct National Council for Peace and Order for using its powers to entice other party members to join Palang Pracharat, the government’s core party.

Mr. Krisdang Nutcharas, a lawyer representing the three accused, said he was informed by the public prosecutors that they decided not to proceed with the cases.

Wise decision!

They didn't want to hear "why you have egg on your face".

The only reason it would be dropped is that it was probably true.

Ah! But they've turned that into a cosmetic fashion accessory! They're all onto it!

He spoke about the lure of promises, spoke the truth about inducements, as we have seen the few MPs who have now realised their folly to join the Palang party have rescinded  their decision, and have become independent.

The by-election coming up has played a part in keeping the noise down.

He really is a Thorn in their side and likely to be their downfall.

Hope so... and soon.

And hoping the further ridiculous charges they have laid against him (shares in media company and loan to his party) are heard and dismissed soon.

They really don't know how to handle him or shut him up... this guy has brains & a backbone

When the economy hits rock bottom and Thai people are hurting then watch the tide turn...

An up-coming election in Nakhon Pathom will show that people are growing tired of false leadership!

More likely, they have a better card up their sleeve.

Thanatorn's proposal to abolish conscription was a hit with Thai voters and directly caused Prayuth to play lip service to this idea.

Now Thanatorn's should say that in his next manifesto he will include a proposal that defamation will cease to be a criminal offence. It would be so welcome and open a floodgate of free speech which is badly needed.

My Thai son has been following his campaigning for the by-election coming soon.  Son says he is maintaining the key points which he hammered in the national election and in son's analysis these are the points that won them the impressively big numbers in the national election. Keeping focus on winning points, good strategy.

Toadie has his full but limited intellect engaged in an endeavour to dream-up something really really good. Actually it serves a good purpose - gives him something to do other than winding watches all day

If not, they will fabricate something, stupid or otherwise they know no difference.

Yes, Newatthis (above): I think Thanathorn is far from being off the hook. This latest 'drop' of a charge is just to make the Authorities look fair - before they really go in for the kill. They will not just let this guy ride into power. There are other strictures and charges which they have concocted against him (and more will be hatched in the future).

One way or another, they are determined to stop Thanathorn. No way can they allow this principled and democratically-orientated young, intelligent, articulate man to upset their carefully rigged apple cart.

Sadly, Thanathorn is not out of the wood yet - nor will he ever be, as long as the junta forces remain in place (which they will forever  - absent a nationwide 'NO!' to them from the Thai people ....).

Hopefully for the people of ????????, you are wrong - but TIT and wrong is always twisted to be ok and kosher.

Just look at the last couple of (known) convicted criminals in government, without an outcry they would still have their snouts in the trough.
