Bob Marley's London home gets one of few blue plaques for black artists

Benjamin Zephaniah was a schoolboy when he sent a letter to Bob Marley along the lines of: “I’m a poet from Birmingham, nobody’s really listening to me in England, what do you think of my poems?”

 

Incredibly, the reggae star wrote back and told him: “Young man, Britain needs you. Keep doing what you do.”

 

Marley’s handwritten letter from Jamaica was one reason Zephaniah was where he was, he said on Tuesday, as he unveiled an English Heritage blue plaque on the house in Chelsea where the singer lived in 1977.

 

“That was a real inspiration to me,” said Zephaniah. “It really inspired me to keep doing what I was doing … at the time there was no spoken word poetry, there was no dub poetry so to read those words...”

When I need a reggae fix, can hang at the Trench Town Bar on Soi Buakhao 

Don't worry about a thing, cos every little thing"s gonna be alrite.

Marley made reggae real. So sad he was victim to a mistaken public assumption as to cause of death.

Then in that he was also victim to his personal convictions.

Nevertheless he has  remained memorable as an icon of the genre of reggae beat which I personally  put a  1000 points  ahead of "rap"!

 

 

He was told in a Miami Hospital that part of his toe needed to be cut off he refused and cancer killed him I was at his funeral in Jamaica

With most of the Jamaicans, so I was told in a little ‘joint’ in Ochi.
