Heavy rains forecast for most of Thailand

Thunder showers, heavy rain and gusts are forecast for most of Thailand on October 5-6, the Thailand Meteorological Department announced on Saturday (October 5).

The department attributed the weather conditions to a high-pressure ridge from China that has moved down to the upper northeastern region and South China sea, creating a southeast trough passing through upper part of Thailand and Gulf of Thailand, causing thunder showers, heavy rain and strong gusts in most part sof Thailand including Bangkok and its perimeter.

The department warned people to avoid staying outdoors, under large trees or in unstable buildings during heavy rains and gusts.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours is as follows:

Northern region: Heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong gusts in 60 per cent of the area; temperature lows of 23-25 degrees and highs of 32-35 degree Celsius; south-easterly wind 10-25 km/h.

Northeastern region: Heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong gusts in 60 per cent of the area; temperatures lows 23-25 degrees and highs 32-35 degree Celsius; southeasterly wind 10-30 km/h.

Central region: Heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong gusts in 60 per cent of the area; lows 24-25 degrees, highs 34-37 degrees Celsius; southeasterly wind 10-25 km/h.

Eastern region: Heavy rains, thunderstorms and strong gusts in 60 per cent of the area; lows 24-28 degrees, highs 33-35 degree Celsius; southeasterly wind 15-30 km./h.; wave height 1 metre, increasing to 2 metres during storms.

Southern region (east coast): Mostly cloudy with thunder showers in 40 per cent of the area; lows of 23-24 degrees, high 32-35 degrees Celsius; southeasterly wind 15-30 km./h.; wave height 1 metre, increasing to 2 metres during storms.

Southern region (west coast): Mostly cloudy with thunder showers in 40 per cent of the area; lows 22-25 degrees, highs 31-33 degree Celsius; southeasterly wind 15-30 km./h.; wave height 1 metre, increasing to 2 metres during storms.

Bangkok and surrounding area: Heavy rains, thunder showers and strong gusts in 60 per cent of the area, lows 25-26 degrees, highs 33-35 degrees Celsius; southeasterly wind 10-25 km/h.

Chiang Mai don't believe it. Even just looked at a satellite weather map and it don't look like it.

Hot as hell in Hua Hin this week.

True I check their BS story regularly. Only thing forecasted is some thunderstorms in the next 2 days. Rain from yesterdays  storm was not much, just enough to cool the air seeing the power authority had its second major power outage on that day affecting 6 PROVINCES ( that never made the news) . First outage at 1100 for 2 hours second one at 1600 for 5 hours. Thailand the hub of no redundancy plan for power loss.

It has hissed it down here in Pattaya this morning, I'm looking at RainViewer at the moment and there are some nasty looking  storms all around us.

Poured here this morning, woke me up at noon.

We just had a couple of showers here in Mukdahan in the last  couple of hours or so, the longest was only for about 15 minutes...

15 mm of rain this morning in Pattaya.

No kidding

Did you uh, Chiang Mai residents, miss yesterdays late afternoon snotgobber of a thunderstorm, which dropped 4 inches (10 cm) in 45 minutes ...... ????  flooded nearby streets, and ripped off the sidings of two houses below where I live, oh right knocked a tree in our drive ?!

Today I noticed a couple debris piles STILL on moat sidewalk waiting to be picked up. One tree had thoughtfully been chainsawed and put next to the road to make it easy to remove. Keep that moat clear for the tourists.

Watching Footie or the Flintstones?!  Hey I do that too. Squawks Rocked though!! WooHoo!  ????

You mean that tiny little shower that barely got my lawn wet? I’m 15 minutes out of the moat area and had nothing relevant.

Huh? Last night's storm was the worst I have seen in 9 years. Hundreds of huge trees down throughout the city, Nong Hoi, Pha Daet, Sansai....pouring buckets of rain, flooding.... Still without power here 24 hours later.

West of Udon also in the 40%, not a cloud in the sky!

Rainy season in bangkok

Squalls are by definition very localised, I am just NW of Bangkok and we had 2 hours of intense downpour and noisy thunder, knocked out the electricity for a while and also Internet (True).

Well holycow, you might not have had much wherever you live, but here in Sanpiisua it was torrential to the point that my drainage was overwhelmed. And on Doi Saket a friend had tree damage as well as flooding. So I don't think you represent Chiang Mai!

Huge windy storm here in Korat. Delayed taking the boys into the city for a movie as I knew there would be flooding..... An hour later all good, just steady rain. Now a nice cool evening.

Who writes these stories:

TMD website as of now

The moderate high pressure covers the North, the Northeast and the South China Sea while the southeasterly winds prevail over Thailand and the Gulf. More rain with isolated heavy rain and gusty wind are forecast for the upper country while thundershowers remain over the South. People should keep off unsecured building and outdoor.

What a buch if whingeing going on over natures path makes me feel like i am watching a UK weather forecast.

and Calgary got a whack of snow, so so glad I'm here..

Central Chiang  Mai , yesterday torrential rain and the worst winds I have ever witnessed in downtown area. Not consistent winds but sudden gusts and at one stage a circular mini tornado like formation . lots of damage.
