geovalin
Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday sentenced a Lao-Canadian man to 30 years in jail after he was found guilty of trafficking drugs in 2018. Presiding Judge Im Vannak identified the man as 50-year-old Canadian citizen Chao Xieng. He said Mr Chao was arrested in Chamkar Mon district on August 15, 2018, by the Interior Ministry’s anti-drug police department. Judge Vannak said police seized 4 kilogrammes of methamphetamine and ecstasy from Mr Chao, therefore he was found guilty of drug trafficking. “Based on Chao Xieng’s confession during the hearing on Sept 19 and the evidence seized by police on the day of his arrest, the judges’ council has found him guilty,” Judge Vannak said. “The court has decided to convict and sentence him to 30 years in jail. The court also orders him to pay 100 million riels [$25,000] to be put in the state’s coffers.” Judge Vannak noted that Mr Chao has 30 days to file an appeal. read more https://www.khmertimeskh.com/50648780/court-sentences-man-to-30-years-in-jail-over-drugs/
