Pick up driver killed after colliding with BTS support pier

Sanook reported that rescue services and police attended an accident near the Mo Chit BTS station in Bangkok.

A Vigo pick-up had been destroyed after colliding with a pier near the end of Pahonyothin Road Soi 18/1.

The 22 year old driver had to be cut out. He was already dead.

He was not named.

Traffic in the area was reportedly jammed while the rescue services worked at the scene.

Must have been absolutely gunning it to flatten the front end like that.

I hope he passed quickly and painlessly, but more importantly than that, it's fortunate he didn't take anyone else with him.

No sympathy whatsoever - only to his family for their loss.

Obviously going terribly fast and could have easily killed someone else.

Glad that he didnt do any damage to others - only to himself.

The state of the wreckage in that photo indicates ridiculous speed. No sympathy.

did he misinterpret the speed limit in the area; as Terminal Velocity?

Warp 9 in a warp 7 limit? Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

We are getting closer and closer to the record .....

It's so hard to see such a huge structure, and it must have been in the middle of the road for him to have hit it, too. It sure is dangerous out there.

A tin can against an immovable concrete bridge... no contest.

Agreed but nobody cares just another life lost

Another stationary object that jumped out of nowhere

maybe suicide ?

On my recent trip from KK to Pattaya via Taplan i passed 4 check points and it was pick up day, but only one other police patrol vehicle during the journey that was parked on the toll rd into Pattaya, if all the check point police were patrolling roads my guess they would make  a big difference to people's driving habits, maybe.

Not an ounce of sympathy for this brain-dead Somchai - what a waste of oxygen and good riddance.

Thankfully, no other casualties.
