Thai government promotes 18 measures to reach target of 39 million tourists

BANGKOK (NNT) - The cabinet of economic ministers earlier last week approved 18 tourism stimulation measures which, the government is confident. will attract the targeted 39.8 million tourists.

Deputy government spokesperson Traisulee Traisoranakul said the measures consist of short-term, medium-term and long-term initiatives . They include short-term financial and legal measures to stimulate tourism markets such as the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale "Passport Privileges" with offers of a 30-70% discount for tourists. Medium and long-term measures include calling for the registration of lodging facilities and special credits for lodging operators and the organizing of world-class expositions or activities.

One very interesting measure being introduced under the Thailand Tourism project consists of two campaigns. One campaign called ’’100 Baht for All Destinations throughout Thailand’’ will be open for registration on November 11, November 12, December 11 and December 12. People can register via the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s website.

The other campaign called "Shocking Price on Weekdays" is offered to people who take a trip to a Thai destination between Mondays and Thursdays, beginning in November until the end of December.

Unfortunately, there is no discussion about tackling air pollution.

Start clean the streets, the stinky sewers. the beaches on day-lie bases would be a nice start.

Of course there is much more, but you have to start somewhere. Oh and let the tourist/expats also pay the 35 bht daily for healthcare in state hospitals, if they want more they pay more your loss will be gone soon and everybody has an insurance.

I think they should start at the airports cut out the extortion get the visa nonsense sorted so every immigration dude is singing from the same sheet and let the embassies around the world what rules apply today,

Half of this does not make sense, such as " the registration of lodging facilities and special credits for lodging operators " and most seems to be directed at the Thai market which involves registering on an app , collecting data and if it is to work, some kind of free money.

The TAT needs to realise that trying to perfect the dance to the tune is not going to work, when in fact the music needs to be radically changed.

If there are 18 positive measures promoted, does that mean there will be 72 new laws enacted to restrict the tourists real movement and 2 or 3 new forms to fill out for when they aren't actually moving?

Pilotman, lend me a little of your optimism as I look over insurance plans

Not specifically in these measures but recently Prayuth instructed local heads to deal with it so consider it sorted.

If they want to boost tourism maybe they should try letting more tourists in.

No mention of TM30? So they can give fines out again.

Before all the coups, tourists just flowed in and out.  Life was great.  Life was fun.  Everyone was hopeful, inspired.  Now the army is always trying to come up with schemes that were not needed before.  They are ruining a perfectly good country.

Desperate times require desperate measures.

Amazing Thailand Grand Sale "Passport Privileges" with offers of a 30-70% discount for tourists.

Can't quite see who they are going to claim the 70% back from, so that will never happen

One campaign called ’’100 Baht for All Destinations throughout Thailand’’

And that wont work for the same reason, unless they lay on several hundred thousand baht buses

calling for the registration of lodging facilities and special credits for lodging operators and the organizing of world-class expositions or activities.

So, what ? Reducing tax for ensuring tourists are kept an eye on ?

Complete waste of time that meeting

The single most important factor is the Baht. Other measures won't change much.

Didn't see any mention of legally banning dual pricing. But then most of these initiatives are intended for superior Thai tourists not those odious foreign tourists who come to Thailand expecting fair and equal and non racial treatment.

They should go elsewhere if they want equal pricing.

The tourist stimulus packages seem to grow day by day.

Today it's 18 new ones.

It's blatantly clear, these clowns have no idea what tourists actually want, and are just tinkering with tourism rather than investing in infrastructure around safety, environment, ease of coming and staying here, reliable police...and of course taking steps to reel in the baht, among others.

I don't think they even understand that Thailands reputation is garbage and they need BIG long term thinking, not stupid short term cupcake ideas. Give up on the short term and focus on long term sustainable tourism.
