  • If I didn't have interests in Thailand, I simply would not go. The Baht against the Aussie Dollar is a killer.

  • Oh, and there is another one. "No more archaic alcohol free days" to reduce domestic tourists going overseas on long weekends during the low season, and foreign tourists from staying away!

So, tourists can now smoke, drink beer 365 days of the year, not be harassed by soldiers in the street, the secret service will not be hiding behind dust bins looking for leg over naughty boys and bikinis will not be deemed "out of order".....Yabadabadoo....????

The simplest way to reach the target is to falsify the figures. Silly me, they do that already!

Visit "Amazing Suvarnabhumi", with 750 baht a night accommodation which includes free cold rice and tap water.

The other campaign called "Shocking Price on Weekdays" is offered to people who take a trip to a Thai destination between Mondays and Thursdays, beginning in November until the end of December.

I have a better suggestion. How about a campaign called Shocking lack of xenophobia and racism practiced by the Army and Immigration? How about shocking competence practiced by the tourism ministry?

Lower the surly and ignorant luxury taxes that discourage wealthy tourists from visiting. They like to shop and drink fine wine. And they refuse to pay some of the highest prices on the planet for that.

Start treating tourists and ex-pats with respect and dignity, start taking traffic and public safety seriously, start doing everything in your power to devalue the grossly over inflated baht, start improving the educational system, so the youth learn to speak reasonably good English, stop harassing frequent visitors at immigration, stop harassing ex-pats, start hiring competent ministers, start doing what you can to clean up the air, land and water, eliminate dual pricing, and stop making ridiculous proclamations and declarations. Behave like real men. Show us some action, and stop the incessant and meaningless jabbering.

And lastly get rid of the ridiculously incompetent army. They are not needed, wanted or liked by anyone other than the elites. They are universally despised, and their incompetence and greed are mind boggling.

Unfortunately, there is no discussion about tackling air pollution.

Or water pollution, e.g. sewage-polluted beaches like Pattaya, Patong, etc.

Why can't they promote 20 measures to have 50 million tourists? ????

Stop harassing visitors at the airport should be number one priority, before Thailand gains a reputation for hostility towards tourists.

How about idea #19?

Devalue the Baht about 20% against all western currencies.

TAT still do not define what they class as a tourist. The magical numbers they keep burping up consist of any one who comes over the boarder or through the airport. I was on a 30 day ocean cruise and we stopped for 6 hours at Lam Chabang. Most passengers got off the ship and either went on a bus tour or walked around the port area. The 3-4 thousand passengers no doubt are put into the system as tourist the same as overnight transit passengers.TAT is only fooling themselves and helping the propaganda machine to pat the Thai bureacrats on the back and tell everyone how good they are and what a wonderful job they are doing.

No concern about real revenue just polish the mirrors.

Obsessed much !!

Too late everyone has gone elsewhere for the next 5 years at least !!

Maybe you spelled it wrong.

Government missed out on No. 19         The Press Gang

Worked for the Navy in times gone by.

which are those 18 measures.

the original article doesn't list them

I feel the same about the numerous alcohol free days. Who benefits? No one. I don't see the connection between Buddhism and alcohol.

Maybe transform double pricing to triple pricing?

Or introduce TM40 document to register each time public WI-FI is being used?

Instead of band aid's they need to revamp the whole country much like a lot of the world you have to fun for the whole family especially kids

Imagine how a hotel in Bangkok would do if it had a water park

The young people have some money but the family rules.

Just more incompetent diatribe and dribble from a ministry without talent or vision. The reality is they have no idea how to  arrest the shocking decline in tourism. They will never take responsibility for the dozen major mistakes that were made and the clown acts of guys like the biggest joke and the PM.

We get what we deserve in life. Although my heart goes out to the millions of Thai people affected by the decline of the tourism industry (not the fictitious arrival numbers, but rather the quality of the tourists), by allowing the army to rule and not acting passionately to rid themselves of such uselessness, they have brought this upon themselves.

Build more 7-11s

Formally eliminate all traffic regulations

Supply facemasks to all taxi and tuk tuk drivers so they can't be identified

Expand dual pricing

Train monkeys to be immigration officers

Oh hum, another BS spin by TAT, once again typical Thailand statements, putting the mouth into drive before engaging the brain.
