Energy Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong

The Energy Policy Administrative Committee on Monday gave the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) the go-ahead for the first time to import Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) totalling 130,000 tonnes.

Energy Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong said after a committee meeting that it acknowledged Egat’s plan to import LNG purchased on spot markets on a trial basis.

The state agency will import LNG in two cargoes, each carrying 65,000 tonnes. The first import will take place in December and the second in April next year.

How long will the 65,000 tonnes last?

Importing LNG doesn't advance EGAT's plan to become the Hub of Power for ASEAN.
