Arrange Marriage in Thailand

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend an agent / company in Pattaya that could assist a UK citizen with the necessary arrangements needed to marry my partner of 15 years. I would appreciate it if all the would be amateur comedians on TV could retain their talents to posting on other topics and leave this one alone.

What exactly do you need?  The UK Embassy and you provide documentation for foreign party which results in a paper that you are free to marry.  Thai provides normal paperwork.  You both visit a District Office to register marriage.

Do you need help with reception/party?

Do you need help obtaining your paperwork (expect you are best qualified for that)?

Do you need help obtaining Thai paperwork?  A lawyer might be useful in that case (if a visit to District Office not enough).

Are you asking about the actual requirements?  Expect UK Embassy will have information available specific to UK.

Or do you mean same sex marriage (use of partner?)  Do not believe any Thai source would be qualified to advise if that is the case.

I believe an agent can fill out a form for you however you need to make an online appointment to go to the embassy. Ok?

But it's an 'affirmation' only you can affirm that what you've written is true, so you are required to be present.

An agent can't substitute for you.

The stages that occurred when I got married were as follows:-

1) I applied for and received a certificate from the English city where I was both married and divorced . This was very cheap.

2) I downloaded  information  from the British Embassy website which then allowed me to design my own form.

On the form I had to supply the names of addresses and phone numbers  of 2 friends who could verify my marital status.

3 Visited the British Embassy in Bangkok-this service  closes at 11.00 a.m. -presented my documents and gave money. They only seemed interested in the money. I asked them if they planned to contact my friends. The  response was 'random' . I took that to mean No! They never did contact my friends.

4) For the next stage I used an agent. He was hanging around the outside of the embassy. For a fee he took all my documents to the ministry of interior.

Had it translated. Not sure of the precise action.

He posted the finished documents . A system with tracking was used to return the docs.

5) Called in to see the lady at the Amphur (Banglamung). She was satisfied that all the docs were in order. That was a Wednesday. Made an appointment for the actual civil process to occur 2 days later i.e. the Friday.

6) The actual process-at the Amphur- just consisted of signing forms. I had to hand over money. That  process finished when the lady asked for a tip.

Documents were the furnished after a wait

That was it.

Next stage was translation into Thai and legalization by MFA.  Normally done in one-stop at a translation office but in this case an agent (probably of translation shop) provided the contact/service.

At District Office you may have to provide 2 witness (often can use others waiting) and they may require you have a Thai/English speaker other than spouse to translate for you (as you must sign Thai documents).
