Many Thai products to lose GSP privileges in the US

Thailand's Department of Foreign Trade will announce on Monday the details of its suspension of duty-free treatment for some Thai products under the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP).

This follows US suspension on Friday of such preferred treatment for Thai products worth around US$1.3 billion, citing the country’s failure to improve its labour rights to meet international standards.

The US Trade Representative reportedly stated that the measure will take effect in the next six months. The duty-free treatment on all of Thailand’s seafood exports to the US also will be revoked.

What a nasty thing to do, especially after inviting President Trump to visit!

When we get our submarines we will blockade the United States so they can't import/export anything. That will teach them to mess with us. And we will tell our Chinese friends how awful they are to us.

Come on Trump shine that spotlight firmly on Thailand. Come on GB & EU follow on. We have all had enough of Thailand taking our money and treating us like s#[t. Upto 300% tax etc on all our goods only allow us to own 49% of a business and refuse us the right to buy land even to build a house on. Hit them hard enough is enough.

Also that we're not allowed to work when we have a thai spouse. Not that i need or want to work but just a small shop/restaurant for social contacts would be nice. And if they really would let me work i could employ loads of thai with my connections/experience overseas....

And social security, don't forget that, we want unemployment pay, pensions and what ever else we used to be able to get back home....and we want it now!

Like Thailand is big on Human rights take a look at the Jails how they treat criminals yeah sure people should do time I have no problem with that but the treatment is barbaric

And also tell to your new Indian friends

Most Americans would be hard put to find something in their house/condo/apartment that came from Thailand. Ninety percent of frozen shrimp consumed in USA comes from Thailand, nobody knows or cares where their shrimp cocktail came from.  Besides, lots of shrimp farmers in America are getting a raw deal when they have to compete against slave workers without rights in farang lands.

Yep, I saw it on the film Forrest Gump, his mate Bubba caught loads.

I really hope Thailand doesn't cave. Those chemicals they are trying to use and send here are terrible. As an American I would not eat it and would do everything I could to find produce that was not sprayed.

Poison absolutely poison for the almighty corporate dollar

Hopefully EU will also follow suit, time to show Thailand that the world dissaproves the way it treats foreigners.

As an American tax payer I happy to see the end of all free rides and handouts being given to ALL COUNTRIES!!! It's about time the playing field was leveled. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having an EQUAL trade agreement and I absolutely DO NOT CARE if you think otherwise!!!

Except it has absolutely nothing to do with how Thailand treats foreigners.

US revoking the favourable way they have treated imports of Thai seafood would suggest (as they are saying) that it is all about labour practices and the human rights abuses in the Thai seafood industry.

There is nothing for Thailand to cave in to. The decision is not theirs. It's entirely up to the US.

Not only foreigners, if the thai still use slaves and underpay employees it's time the EU knows about that.

They are still doing auto parts and electronics that end up in US. Tax 'em to the hilt I say, all of west, until Thais do what they always do, fold. Time to get the trade and immigration reciprocal.
