Can we show Euros rather than Thai baht at a land crossing ?

Featured Replies

We're crossing into Thailand at Sadao to get a 30 day visa exemption stamp. Can we show the equivalent of 10,000 B in Euros or does it have to be in Thai baht ? Thanks.

It can be in any exchable currency. There is no requirement for it to be in baht.

Yes, you can! As long as it is a minimum amount that equals the amount of 10k baht.

Great news. Thanks for the quick response.

I would make it 20K baht. i think they ask for 20K per head and 40K for a family baht or  equals

Not for a visa exempt entry. That is only for entries with a visa.

Immigration laws says 20 kTHB or equivalent in other currencies, however I would not rely on Thai immigration officer knowing foreign currencies and exchange rate, so I always carry 20 kTHB with me when I leave Thailand so I can show 2 kTHB as proof of funding when I enter.

To make absolutely sure, I carry my Thai bank book with me as well (which has over 20 kTHB). Thai embassy in Saigon did not accept cash as proof of funding, but accepted my bank book in 2016.

I crossed from Penang (where I got a SETV) at Sadao to Hat Yai in 2015 and was asked to show 20k, and one passenger on the van was sent back for lack of funding.
