BEIJING (Reuters) - China said stopping violence is the most important thing in Hong Kong now after the United States condemned “unjustified use of deadly force” in the latest violence and urged China to honor its commitments to freedom of expression in the territory.

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang made the comments at a daily news briefing in Beijing on Tuesday.

Police shot and critically wounded a protester and a man was set on a fire in Hong Kong on Monday.

I find China's actions quite galling on this. Flat out belligerence and a complete failure to recognise its actions in violent events to date, and any future violence.

They cant repeat a Tiananmen style crackdown as it would cripple their relationship with the West beyomd repair.

They're going to have to make some concessions here or it could get massively out of hand very soon.

Sheeple making noise and demands?--yes, China's government should advice sheeple with water cannons, tear gas and rubber bullets for a start as we do in our West democracy.

Lets be fully aware first. Hong Kong is part of China.

No outside help is going to come to the protesters aid except bleating about human rights as the US has just done.

At first they had my sympathy as the law to send unconvicted criminals back to China

was not right.

The law was finally withdrawn & then rescinded completely.

Now we have a bunch of riff raff using the genuine protesters original protest (who mostly have gone home) to continue the melee.

China will soon loose patience & quell them their way & it will get grubby.

The policeman with the gun was scared shi..... for his own life.

I would have done just the same

Shameful US where its trained guerrilla burned alive a innocent father of 2 kids just because asked them to stop to destroy subway infrastructure !

US shall stop to create pain, trouble, violence, coupe d'etat, tragedies all around the globe!

Your statement is conjecture. It is this kind of comment that does not help either side.
