webfact
New zero waste campaign launched in Ratchada district By The Nation SET President Pakorn Peetathawatchai explains that the whale is the symbol of an ecosystem that requires human actions to rebalance. The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) is collaborating with 14 businesses with premises along Ratchadaphisek road, 12 social enterprises and environmental partners to push forward a zero waste campaign under the “Care the Whale project: The Climate Action Collaboration @Ratchada District Initiative”. The collective effort, which starts with promoting zero-waste behaviour among Thai consumers, aims to turn Ratchadaphisek Road in Bangkok into a balanced environment and a model of upstream circular economy. SET President Pakorn Peetathawatchai explains that the whale is the symbol of an ecosystem that requires human actions to rebalance. The campaign has developed an integrated network to establish Ratchadaphisek road as a center for waste management with circular material flow that allows materials to be recycled, supported by the project’s partner with specialised waste management knowhow. The pilot project has been joined by 14 organisations on Ratchadapisek road with more than 30,000 employees and a combined area of over 600,000 square meters. They will serve as role models to the some 1.3 million visitors who spend time in Ratchada district each month and who will help spread the idea so it evolves into a large-scale network. Furthermore, this project will be expanded to become a knowledge exchange platform for environmental management, financial knowledge, and circular economy for tourism, Pakorn said. In addition, to monitor and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the campaign is also introducing the Care the Whale Calculator as a practical tool to calculate, review, and analyse carbon emissions.
