Someone told me something that if I dial XXX instead of + when making an international call it becomes a lot cheaper.

I forgot what the XXX was, it was like 007 or 009 and is it true?

Either of them.

Naka.

Tried 009 and for a 30 sec call to sweden I was charged about 20 baht, that wasn't so cheap. :o

Hatari phone net from 7-11.

1 min 4 baht to UK + local no. at whatever youre paying for your mobile.

For me it works out at about 9 bt per min total.

Cheaper than '+' (001) ... that was the specific question.

IIRC 009 is 7 Baht per minute to Europe, billed whole minutes only, 61 seconds = 2 minutes. Was your call really only 30 seconds? Still cheaper than 001 even if it was :D

How much would a call the other way (Sweden - Thailand) cost?

CAT/009 and TOT/007 call tariffs vary by country. You can Google their sites to get the tariff tables. For some reason Sweden is 18 baht/min on 007/009, vs. 21 baht/min. on 001.

Calls to the U.S.A. are 9 baht/min. on 001 and 5 baht/min. on 007/009.

Hatari Phone Net from 7-11 is the best. But, use there 1800 number so your mobile isn't charged at all. It's a flat rate of 4 baht a minute-- at least for calls to the U.S. (and many other countries... not sure about Switzerland.)

I know that AIS came out with 005 prefix specifically for their phones. I don't know if it is cheaper than 009. I can't seem to find the tariff table for the 005. Does anyone know if this is listed online? Preferably in English.

just go their website http://www.ain.co.th/

Wait a few seconds til stupid flash ad is finish.

There is small button 'EN' on top right corner to turn whole page into English.

Then find your way to the tariff calculator, shouldnt be hard for you.

Cheers

I just looked up the rates for AIN 005.  The rates were 9 baht per minute to the U.S. and 18 baht per minute to the U.K., not really worthwhile in my opinion.
