Short and precise

Tax payment is imprinted to the blue book (last two pages or so).

New sticker and receipt printed on one page are stapled to the book.

Not confusing at all !!

Have no idea about car on finance.

car is not financed.

Bluebook is in BKK with an agent changing it to my name and Chonburi province, agent needs me to bring vehicle down so they DLT can do the chassis number rub.... I cannot get down there until my holidays last week of December..... road tax is due next week.

Correct.

For the large number of vehicles that are on finance the 'owner' does not have the blue book in their possession, only a copy..

At Rayong LTD Drive Through window just presenting the old tax disc has been acceptable. The actual blue book is updated the next time it is presented to the LTD.

I never stop learning and indeed not thought about the many "Bangkok" cars everywhere.

Off topic: yesterday I saw the first Bangkok plate with a leading "9".

When will they run out of numbers again and what kludge will they invent then.

No worries, the fine for late tax would cost less than a small Chang at 7-eleven.

What does the insurance company think of no road tax ?

No tax payment without having paid for compulsory insurance (your first walk).

And all insurance companies are happy for a reason not to pay.

(car not properly registered/taxed, no valid DL, DUI etc.)

No problem with that.

You will have to present the 'tear off' from the compulsory insurance doc and test cert (if more than 7 years old)

do you have additional insurance, as the compulsory government insurance will/may run out with the tax disc, why are you changing it to local plate

Paid the compulsory last week when I renewed the 1st class.

Changing to plate to Chonburi as I live here and not BKK.... If I had a BKK address I would leave it.

You can pay the tax at ANY DLT office, no need to go to Bkk. They will want proof of insurance, plus an MOT test slip, plus blue book (not sure if copy will do?).

If you are late paying, the fine is a pittance. I think its 7 baht / day! (I once taxed a car which was more than 3 years overdue!) After 3 years non payment they give you a new blue book and new plates...... I never found out why. Sometimes in Thailand it does not pay to ask, as the answer may hurt ones brain.
