Air Asia over 40 kg checked baggage

Featured Replies

I am returning to the USA (expat in Thailand)... From bkk to LAX... I'm allowed 2 x 23 kg suitcase checked However, on air Asia from Krabi to Bangkok.. I can only pre purchase 40kg. Right?

Which will be cheaper... Gate checked cost of hand luggage (if they check it) over 7kg or paying 6 kg excess baggage when I check in?.. But how strict are they? The cost adds up fast... About 300 baht per kilo.. Yes?

Maybe send one of the suitcases by ThaiPost or a courier-service to a pick-up point at BKK Airport?

I often use ThaiPost in Suvarnabhumi (situated at the end of the last check-in row at Departures), on arrival from abroad.  Sending the excess luggage by ThaiPost is much cheaper than paying for the surcharge on a domestic flight (and you travel lighter as well).  Delivery at my doorstep is typically within 2 days.

Not sure if airport pick-up is an option, but worth to find out.

book a direct flight phuket out of Thailand, (Phuket you will find better routing than Krabi)  thats what i always do..2017 Cathay pacific for only $750

350 baht for a kilo overweight is what I settled on AirAsia at DMK last Tuesday which I thought was quite reasonable.  In the UK I would have been bent over and rogered for considerably more.

I should also add that my wife and I were collectively two kilos overweight but they have a tolerance of one kilo overweight so only settled 350 baht for the additional kilo.  This was also borne out when we flew AirAsia earlier this year and were exactly one kilo overweight and we weren't charged.

Ha... That's why I asked... So they are strict! I wish they would allow 50kg to be bought beforehand!

100% of the time.  Yes.

Give yourself enough time at the airport as the check-in staff don't take the excess fee from you.  They print out your boarding pass with a comment as to the charge and you then take that to the AirAsia counter and pay there.  In the meantime your luggage has already been checked through.
