toxsickcity Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Hello fellow thai's & farangs! I want to live with my wife in thailand, can someone help with options and if my way will work or not? okay this is my idea. I will goto bangkok after the Songkran festival and apply for an extention of stay for 1 year I will show my bank statement of 450,000Baht and other required docs. I will do this for 3 years! after 3 years my THAI will be much better then it is now. I will one day apply for residence! tho It is suppsoe to be real hard i've been told. Before I apply I want to know how to Speak 70-100% and write decent THAI! My thai now isn't terriable! but it's not great either! but customers all the time give compliments! I like that! haha My wife has a shop under her name and she earns more then enough for both of us. Info about us. I am an Australian 26 Years old, married for 5 years to Thai wife also 26 years old. We live in korat (ratchasima) and have a parts shop under wife's name We have changed Wife's surname to my surname "if that helps?" she pays approiate taxes and earns enough! I have 450k baht in a thai bank in my name I stay at home and clean our house & look after the animals (5 Cats) she loves cats! well I do too! they are my babies! my wife doesnt drive so I drive her too & from work everyday. so for now I want to avoid paying taxes or getting a work permit until later! perhaps after redence visa!?!?!?!? if you have any questions please ask! & any advice would be greatfully appriciated! thank-you Shaun. P.S. when applying for residence visa or extentions is it worth having reference from Police friends & friends from high government places?
samran Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=74654 read that thread, read all of it. It outlines clearly what you need to get PR here. so for now I want to avoid paying taxes or getting a work permit until later! perhaps after redence visa!?!?!?!?unfortunately, you need to show three years of tax returns, plus three years of extensions. Showing a contbution to Thai society is essential. when applying for residence visa or extentions is it worth having reference from Police friends & friends from high government places? I don't think these ever hurt in Thailand, but for PR, they ain't going to get you over the line.
lopburi3 Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 What is required is your wife having income over 40k per month (if you do not have income) and records of tax payments to prove it. Your bank balance is not what is required anymore and is not accepted for extensions of stay for new applicants.

Lite Beer Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 You can get the extension with your wife earning 40,000 a month.
garro Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 Toxsickcity, first of all - you lucky bast**d. I wish my wife would let me stay at home while she earned all the money. Mind you I am not a big fan of cats. I am no expert but from what I have read so long as your wife is earning 40K legally and can prove it then you should have no problem with yearly extensions. This is not to say that the goal posts won't move again in the future. In regards to residency I think you may have problems. As others have pointed out you are meant to be making some type of contribution to Thailand (taxes). I could be wrong though. Best of luck anyway
samran Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 so to get a extention,It's okay that my wife is on the payroll of 40k+/month? or do I need to be too? It is 40K family income. So a combination of you and your wife, just you, or just your wife. So long as the total between you two adds up to 40K. unfortunately, you need to show three years of tax returns, plus three years of extensions. Showing a contbution to Thai society is essential. would it be enough that my wife make this contribution? You are the one applying for residency, not your wife. So it'll have to be you.
toxsickcity Posted March 31, 2007 Author Posted March 31, 2007 thanks for the great information you guys! I will do a extention then perhaps next year spend a year and train for a degree in sound "audio setup" I already know most there is to know but it's the 21centurary and paper is always needed! I will probally create a company or something! well if anyone else has a comment please do add thanks heaps!
