Each week we see articles about domestic violence.   In some the victim is murdered and in others seriously and permanently injured.   Domestic violence isn't limited to women, and we see the occasional case of men having their penis cut off.    In your opinion, do you think domestic violence is getting more prevalent, less prevalent or it is about the same as it always has been.

Please feel free to comment on what you think can be done to lessen the prevalence and severity of domestic violence.

The survey is very hard to answer, I have been here with my wife for 14 years now, she has a son and daughter,  a sister and 3 brothers, I have never heard of any violence of any kind in her family at all.

Reading Thaivisa is the only time I have known about Thai violence in their families, but there is violence in families in any country, unless one has heard about domestic violence in their neighbourhood or in their family, it is going to be hard to give any opinion of it.

It is usually something not openly talked about.

my wife has a big family and i dont ever see any signs or hear talk of it.

I doubt it's changed a great deal, it has definitely become more visible with social media etc.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

How  the hell can any foreigner know about this unless they are actually  here working in social care.

I  only  beat my Wife once a  week  now instead of daily cuz it  used to hurt my hand after the stick  broke and the staff just dont seem  willing to do it anymore..........

Yes, it's a cultural issue, but from cases I know about, the woman in a Thai partnership is often the aggressor and I think I can understand why that might be. I never heard anyone say life was perfect. A woman was murdered recently in our neighbourhood. Nasty, very nasty, evidently he shot her with her own gun, broke some major bones and cut her up with a chain saw. Allegedly.

I know this sort of crime happens in many countries but that isn't really a good reason to reduce the enormity of the action and does little to reduce my (some would say obvious) disdain for Thais.

go spend a month in the Philippines or Myanmar, Thailand is pretty mild in comparison especially compared to what I have seen on the Burmese side of the border with Thailand.

With the amount of violence shown on Thai soaps there is no wonder that there is a prevalence for domestic violence. Thai TV need to cut some of that from air.

Don’t keep knives or scissors in your house.

Oh dear. What has that got to do with anything? India is hotter than Thailand but it doesn't make Thailand any cooler. I'm not quite sure I see your point, but please don't explain, because I'm not really interested and I don't really care what you've experienced somewhere else, this is about Thailand.

so you can read thai? too see all the brutal daily cases of women shot, stabbed throught thailand and many cases over very petty things, or do you just see and read the ones put out by thai visa and bangkokpost or other english pages?

you know facebook is full with domestic violence, where the women or other relatives seek help from public after police did not do anything because it was family fight...
