Hi

Looking for advice on cable size approx 800m run from transformer, will only be small house, copper or Aluminium cable, in Sateuk Buriram province,  and any contacts of electrical contractors who can Quote for job.

Thanks

Your meter will be on the transformer pole?  Whatever... first determine size meter you will need - possibly "5/15".  Then go to the PEA and ask for recommendation and if they know anyone (wink, wink) to install.  You will probably also need the land book (chanut?) and a map.

800m is a pretty long way to run 220V.

Assuming a "normal" meter of 15/45 (say 40A for your welder) then you're looking at 185 or 240mm2 aluminium which is a pretty fat cable by anyone's reckoning.

If you can really get away with a 5/15 (say 20A flat out) then you're still looking at 70 or 95mm2 aluminium.

You need to talk to PEA for a solution, maybe a baby transformer with HV fed nearer to your house.

IMPORTANT NOTE.

Our OP had another thread (removed as a duplicate) where he indicated that this is a temporary supply.

Dependant upon where his meter is going to end up (is it really 800m away) a temporary supply may be better served by using a small (or not so small) genset. Said genset could then provide backup power once the house is completed, never get left in the dark.

First port of call should be the local PEA office to see what they can provide as a "construction supply" and where they would install the final meter. It is PEA's responsibility to supply to the meter wherever they choose to put it although you may end up shelling for poles even on their side.

@Boedog if you could come back with actual distances from the potential meter location we can re-do the cable sizes.
