BANGKOK (NNT) - A meeting of cabinet ministers Jan 2 approved three draft ministerial regulations on the possession of radiation generators for medical and diagnostic purposes, and acknowledged the Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ proposal to bid for the FIFA World Cup.

The Deputy Government Spokeswoman, Dr. Ratchada Thanadirek, said today the cabinet meeting approved three draft ministerial regulations on the possession of radiation generators for medical and diagnostic purposes.

The draft regulations require those in possession of such generators to notify relevant agencies of the reason for possessing or using the equipment, the period of possessing or using the equipment and the operational safety standards, according to the Nuclear Energy for Peace Act, 2019. However, medical practitioners are not required to seek permission from the authorities, as their services are in accord with international standards and benefit members of the public.

However, medical practitioners have to notify the Department of Medical Sciences within 60 days of acquiring the generators. Concerning the equipment’s safety standards, users must hold relevant licences and certifications to operate them.

Dr. Ratchada said the cabinet meeting also acknowledged the Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ proposal for Thailand to host the 2034 Fifa World Cup. Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, hopes that Thailand will host the international football tournament and believes that the Thai people would be good hosts. The cabinet meeting also acknowledged that ASEAN is to set up a regional eSports hub in Malaysia.
