New Hand-carried Rules At Singapore Airport

New hand-carried rules at Singapore

SINGAPORE: Stringent new restrictions on hand luggage go into effect next month at Singapore's Changi Airport, officials said on Monday.

All liquids, gels and aerosols including perfumes and hair styling products must be stored in containers not exceeding 100ml each, and the containers must fit into a single, transparent bag.

Each of the 17 million passengers who fly out of the airport annually will be allowed one such bag, according to rules published in The Straits Times.

Despite efforts to publicise similar rules, recent experiences at other airports show that some passengers still arrive ill-informed and unprepared.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore plans to keep a stockpile of the one-litre bags and is considering erecting "repacking counters" where travellers can reorganise their possessions.

The rules are in line with recommendations from the International Civil Aviation Organisation, drawn up following a plot foiled in August in Britain to blow up 10 planes by smuggling liquid explosives on board.

Same rule was just enforced at HK as well (I was there last week and had to leave the hair gell behind!) :o

Same rules are now being applied by Malaysia Airports Berhad at all Malaysian airports effective April 1st.

Saw in the local paper here in Oz saying the same, it's also posted on the Singapore Airlines web site
