Local power consumption set to hit new high in April-May

BANGKOK: -- Local power consumption is expected to peak at a new high of 22,513 megawatts for the seventh time in the April-March period due to a very hot weather condition this year, according to the Energy Ministry.

Speaking at a launch of a campaign activity on “Comfortable Corner for Heating Relaxation,” Energy Minister Piyasvasti Amranand said the very hot weather condition is likely to make the local power demand hit a record high of 22,513 megawatts compared with 21,064 megawatts last year.

It is the seventh time the power demand is expected to peak at a new high during April and May.

To reduce the consumption peak and save energy in compliance with the government’s policy, he said the ministry cooperated the Energy Plan and Policy Office in conducting the campaign activity aimed at encouraging people to improve conditions of their existing residence regardless of a single house, townhouse, and condominium.

The activity includes growing trees at houses, choosing energy-saving materials, and placing furniture in a direction that does not obstruct winds.

Details of the programme would be disseminated through Modernnine TV and TV Channel 5.

So there will be more power outages?

Does it affect anyone here?

I wonder how the grid copes with the massive use of AC thru out Bkk.
