Governmental Greed and Corruption

As we see the environmental problems such as increasingly out of control air pollution and other things, it is quite naive to be hopeful that Thailand will ever recover due to the fact that nothing will ever be done to combat the situation until is it well past the fixable point.

We have all heard and seen all the silly ideas to fix these problems.

Spraying water to prevent air pollution!

Take less showers to fix the drought!

The fact is acknowledging why people go into politics in Thailand and why the political system is ruled by Generals, who by the way, are all multi-millionaires while working on a govt salary.

I had an occasion to visit with the Commandant of the Thai <edited> Corps.

It had to do with the fact that 99.5% of their armored personnel vehicles were broke down.

When I asked the Commandant if he was concerned in the case of an attack from a neighboring country, he flat out said the following with a serious straight face:

"I am not concerned, I have a home in Australia and I will go live there"

When you understand that mentality, you understand the fact that the growing problems in Thailand will never be solved, because at the end of the day, all those in charge are trying to grab as much money as they can through corruption to help themselves and no one else. They all have a Plan B and the money to execute their Plan B.

When the air gets too bad like Beijing, many of these in charge of the government will simply move with their millions to another country, where they can afford to live a life of luxury

In government today, these politician's know their time in power is limited. They are 100% focused on grabbing as much corruption money as they can for themselves for the future.

Do you actually think they are going to waste this time trying to solve problems for the common people of the country, who they so despise? Of course not. Their focus is on how much money can they put in their pockets before they are thrown out of power. Does Thailand really need a few billion dollars worth of scanners outside the toilets at the airport? Yet there is more of a fight over this issue than solving air pollution. Why? No corruption money in solving environmental problems.

Isn't that the real game in Thailand. Money = Power. Power means controlling budgets which equates to more money. Have you ever seen the financials of some of these politicians? Billionaires.

An inch away from being put on the US list of countries manipulating currency. Who is this benefiting? Yes you know who.

Thailand will continue to spiral out of control, worse and worse and worse in the coming years. The politician's could care less, they have the money to move anywhere in the world.

Elections will come and go, new faces in the government will want to grab what they can while they are in power. They want to be rich and be able to afford to live in any country of their choosing.

A vicious cycle of corruption and greed that will never benefit the people of Thailand as politician's only work on stupid projects to line their pockets.

Anyone think buying submarines is more important than tackling air pollution? Well, it must be because there is a massive budget for submarine purchases and no budget for air pollution.

How much corruption do you think is involved in the purchase of submarines? Well, probably will be a few more pink Bentley's being driven around town by officials on govt salaries.

Can You Name ONE positive thing the government have done for the country over the last 20 years or 30 years you have lived here?

I think many people here know the real reason why Thailand struggles to implement any effective governmental change and this is becoming even more apparent now. Whether or not this will change in the next decade or so we shall see, but the signs are slowly there.
