Former finance minister Korn Chatikavanij, who resigned from the Democrat Party on Wednesday, admitted Thursday night that he is in the process of forming a new political party.

He said the party, which has yet to be named, will be a springboard for him to push for changes. Speaking on Nation TV, Korn said he has been engaged in talks with a wide range of people who share his passion in doing the country a service through politics.

He said the country needs people with knowledge and capability to prepare Thailand to cope with changes.   “We don’t have enough people in the political system who are knowledgeable enough to keep up with changes,” he said.

Suggestions elsewhere that this party could be the new home for FFP MPs after that parťy is dissolved on the 21st.

in other words, what we Do have are dinosaurs; and he is right; next to thanathorn, he is the next best bet

Nice to see some heavyweight opposition emerge.

I wonder what pretext they'll use to ban his new party?

Korn, blowing the whistle in the shutdown Bangkok campaign, which finally led to the coup, their goal all along.

Will it ruin rerepresentative government and jump into the military's lap at the snap of its fingers?  Will it let down the average Thai?  Will it hinder rule of law that Thailand needs so badly?  If so, its going to be a winner for the powerful and wealthy.

Divide and conquer..

Korn is a smart man, but his policies and mindset is still deeply old school ammart / prai elite / serf urban / rural policies of the hard yellow variety.. While he may be able to pick up opportunistic MPs after a disbandment on the ideology side they are very out of alignment.

opposition in name only.. a fake choice to divide and conquer..

As soon as a coalition forms he will be the active political management and the junta dinosaurs will all be given the crony jobs without work they want.. While at the same time providing power to the party in the form of population control / tanks and guns and a veneer of political class for the international market. Korn will repay that with plenty of pork barrel policies and no restrictions on military / judicial / institutional bias.. Korn cares not for the basic ideals of democracy one whit.

Make no mistake this is a dangerous precedent and very clearly Junta 2.0 for the long haul.

I wonder if Abhisit will join Korn.

Odd against (would be too much of a rift and damaging to the Dems)... However old Whistleblower General will no doubt leave the monkhood for such an opportunity to stamp on democracy..

It seems Thanatorn's popularity has scared him.

That would make sense. Good luck to them. I assume that would not include Thanatorn which would be a pity. Still, I would fully expect him to have some of the right ears.
