Koh Phangan road conditions 2020

Recommended Posts

We're going to Koh Phangan by car and planning to take it with us on the ferry. It's a Honda City (FWD), so I'd like to know where on the island we'll be able to drive and where we wont. I read that in the last years, many roads have been concreted, so FWD's can get around, but still Bottle Beach, Than Sadet and Haad Thien are off limits. Any other places we'll get in trouble? Is the whole west side, from Haad Rin to Chaloklum OK for FWD?

A few answers...

Than Sadet now has a very good road past the waterfall and to the beach.

AFAIK Bottle Beach remains a pretty hard road to negotiate, but FWDs and motorbikes do manage it. Having done it on a bike I would recommend parking near the main road and walking down though.

As you eluded to, most of the West side is now covered by the 'ring road'  and other roads such as the road to Chaloklum. The East side - i.e. Had Rin and further north up to Thong Nai Pan, can be very hard to access by road and usually  better to take a taxi boat.
