Cambodia drops a rank below in 2019 Corruption Perception Index

Featured Replies

Cambodia is currently ranked 162 out of 180 countries, scoring 20 out of 100 in the 2019 Corruption Perception Index (CPI) by Transparency International, describing the country as “highly corrupted”. The index ranks 180 countries and territories by their perceived levels of public sector corruption, according to experts and business people. It uses a scale of 0 to 100, where 0 is completely corrupt and 100 is completely clean.

In response to the report by Transparency International, government spokesperson, Phay Siphan says the government actions against corruption in the country have improved favourably and this is indicated by the increasingly favourable business environment. “We have seen an increase in tax collection and this is a result of the actions taken by the government to curb corruption in the country,” says Siphan.

Additionally, the government spokesperson stated he continues to educate the public and civil servants in order to prevent corruption and encourages the public both on and off social media to monitor and report wrongdoings related to corruption. “Reports on corruption will be taken seriously by the government and actions will be taken against the wrongdoer,” says Siphan.
