Dwayne Wade has discussed his child's gender journey after his son Zion, 12, made the decision to identify as female and now goes by the name Zaya.

 

The basketball pro, 38, spoke candidly in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, which is set to air Tuesday, in which he further discussed parenting Zaya as well as revealing he sought help in the cast of Pose for help with addressing the situation.

 

Dwayne, who shares Zaya with his ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches, detailed how he and his current wife Gabrielle Union had to educate themselves about the LGBTQ community and said they are 'proud parents and allies' of the child.   

 

Dwayne told the NBC chat show host: ‘First of all, me and my wife Gabrielle, we are proud parents of a child in the LGBTQ+ community and we are proud allies as well...

Well, the NBA may no longer be in the kid's future but there is always the WNBA.

i'm sorry, but I can never get my head around these things, regardless of who the parents are.

 

Here we see that it is OK for a 12 year old child to make a life changing decision, where the same child cannot be held responsible for anything else in our current society. With full support from the parents?

 

And just for clarity, I have nothing against the LGBTQ+ community as such, but perhaps it is my lack of knowledge and understanding of this type of gender/group that fears the sense and responsibility of parents to support prepuberty children in cases like this.

I wonder if this happy dad has looked into the suicide rate of transgender teens.

At the age of 12 I think its premature for a child to make such a decision.
