THAI to increase screening procedures for Westerdam passengers who want to enter Thailand

Thai Airways International (THAI) has increased passenger screening procedures for flights from Cambodia after news that a passenger who was on board the Westerdam cruise ship that docked in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, had contracted the coronavirus (COVID-19), the airline announced on its Facebook page.

THAI president Sumeth Damrongchaitham said the Public Health Ministry had prohibited Westerdam passengers from entering Thailand for a period of 14 days that began on February 14.

Out of concern for public safety, Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob ordered all air transportation organisations under the ministry to prepare to screen Westerdam passengers who want to enter Thailand.

THAI has instituted strict measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus based on international standards and in adherence with the standards of the World Health Organisation, the International Air Transport Association, the Public Health Ministry, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand.

The airline has increased screening procedures from today until February 29 for passengers who disembark from the Westerdam and transfer to a THAI flight from Phnom Penh, Cambodia, to Suvarnabhumi Airport.

THAI is also taking four other measures:

1. It has arranged a special team to travel to and fro on its Phnom Penh-Bangkok route to observe symptoms and screen passengers on its flights.

2. It will deny boarding to any passenger who exhibits Covid-19 symptoms or may be a potential disease carrier.

3. It will separate any passenger from the Westerdam from other flyers.

4. Once the flight has returned from the destination of origin, the aircraft will be disinfected, with the passenger cabin, cockpit and 36 “touch points” undergoing deep cleaning.

THAI is reassuring passengers of its strict preventive measures to safeguard against the spread of the coronavirus.

I'm confused by that statement. It hardly stops the spread of the illness if you catch it on the plane from the guy they take off with it but show no symptoms yet. Or will test them ALL, then if all OK let them fly on, OR will they test all, find one carrier and isolate them all just in case ?

Unless it's 14 days quarantine for all in contact with one of the potentially infected, it's a PR exercise.

That's quite concerning not to mention irresponsible.

If we use enough key words like strict, increase, screening and cockpit in media releases it should stop the virus getting to Thailand. If we say free visa enough times that should fix the lack of tourist problem as well. All is 100% under control.
