Thailand’s halal exports are expected to get a boost after the Central Islamic Council of Thailand has been recognised as a halal organisation meeting the Emirates International Accreditation Centre (EIAC)’s standards, facilitating exports to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Juadee Pongmaneerat, secretary-general of the National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards, said exports could earn Bt1 billion per year.

“Previously, Thailand could not send chicken or other halal products to the UAE, as Thailand was not recognised by the UAE organisation,” she added.

An EIAC team was sent to Thailand from December 16 to 19 to check the manufacture of halal products.

Juadee attended the IHAF [International Halal Association Forum] meeting of the board of directors on February 17-18, to jointly consider the IHAF strategic plan and operational direction.

She also made the case for Thailand’s halal standards to facilitate product exports, and decrease multi-standards conduct towards products from Thailand.
