Romance scam: Three small fish arrested but the sharks behind are a Thai woman and "foreign husband"

Immigration chief Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang appeared at a press conference flanked by immigration officers from Songkhla and five heavily armed commandos.

He was there to announce the arrest of three people who had been at the tail end of a romance scam.

Abdullah, Ibbaheng and Miss Anusara were paid 200 baht a time by a gang to get money from ATM accounts with fraudulent cards.

At the time of arrest they were getting 120,000 baht from an account.

Their job was to send it to a Thai woman who has a foreign husband.

All are part of a widespread Romance Scam that has defrauded many lonely hearts Thai women out of 4 million baht.

The scam is a standard of the genre - Thais would pose as customs officials or immigration officers in telephone calls.

This came after a handsome foreigner had gone online to gain the women's trust and promise them lots of money and marriage.

The bogus officials pretended that payments were needed for taxes on goods being held at airports.

Lt-Gen Sompong said that he expected the big fish to soon be in his net.

Who knows , could be that the “ foreign husband “ is another dangerous zimmer wielding farang !!

Well if he was wielding a zimmer, he wouldn't be wielding it in Scrabble. Rooster has already mentioned it's a disallowed word.

Careful the Zimmer may have the rocket launcher option fitted.

If they had caught 1 less fish and caught 5 loaves of bread they could have fed a few people. About 5000 at a guess.

Immigration works like fish trawler that is so focused on bycatch that the fish slipps away.

What is that photo all about in the OP? It is like those chumps are about to invade a country, not conduct a weekly press conference. Truly bizarre.

Maybe he fears someone is going to go after him, the same way they went after BJ lately... Oooppsss.... on second thought, he's probably ONE guy who doesn't have to worry about that!

Troll posts and replies have been removed, the topic is not about the photo in the OP.

Inflammatory post reported and removed.
