Singer Melanie Chisholm has said she made herself “really ill” after suffering with image problems during her time as a member of the Spice Girls.

Speaking on Desert Island Discs, Chisholm, known as Mel C, suggested that her moniker “Sporty Spice” was partly to blame for her struggle with eating disorders.

“I read about myself and wondered who that person was,” she said. “I am sporty and athletic, but I am quite soft and gentle really.

“I was described as the plain one at the back. So I tried to make myself perfect. I ended up making myself really ill. I was anorexic for a few years. I was exercising obsessively and I ended up being incredibly depressed. I was in denial.”

Boo Hoo! Others are dealing with far worse issues and don't have all the money Mel C has. She chose to be in the band. Deal with it sister!

I expect we could all recall unpleasant experiences from 20 years ago ! But then most dont need to crave publicity and column inches on failing to non existent career. Seems pretty deperate to me to be dragging this up now.

So stunning and brave

I disagree. Not long enough.

Too quiet to long?if you,'re referring to the "music" (I use the term extremely loosly)churned out by the spicy girls, long may it continue.

She has spent so long being quiet that I had no idea who the hell she is.

At least you're giving her the benefit of the doubt that what they turned out "may" have been considered music.

I recall when I was young someone referred to me as a "hard worker" took years to remove the stigma

The years I had to endure! the blood, the seat & yes the tears!

But nobody cared!

Woe is I

Move on to the next winging moaning 'celeb! Prats!

Gawd............:coffee1:

You beat me to it. Hated them when they were popular. Best thing ever happened to them when they sacked their manager and vanished from the music world.
