Pong Nam Ron

Featured Replies

Two friends did a Visa Run to Pong Nam Ron border crossing yesterday, and both were fined 1600 baht for not registering their address in Pattaya with immigration.

This surprised me, and I did not realise they were doing this now.

Are other border crossings the same now?

If they are doing this at land borders why not the Airport also?

Did your friends get a receipt for the fine payment?

It is the first I have heard of this happening on exit anywhere.

That is new and IMO way out of bounds. No reports of it at other crossings.

Not going to happen at an airport since they do not have the ability or desire to impose the fine.

Did they go there from Pattaya with a visa run company?

What kind of visa did they have?

Yes, and they were warned about it when booking the visa run.

There have been some other cases of some strange occurrences at that crossing when using certain visa run services that are a bit suspicious about a kick back.

As asked before did they get a receipt for the fine?

Pretty sure the answer on the receipt is no, but will ask.

Not staying in a hotel.

But even then, if you go to Jomtien for an extension and are not registered, you and the hotel will be fined.

There is a database where all online reports done by hotels and individuals they can check If done in person they would look for the receipt for the report.

Not always. If no report was done immigration can make problems for a person. It passes down from the owner to the tenant if it was not done.

Not if you use an agent.

They had extensions you said already, presumably made in Jomtiem. Were they fined then?

Edit: Sorry... I see the post that they used an agent (why?)

Interesting info and thanks for posting....

If no receipt was provided for the fine, it is pretty clear what is going on. As @ubonjoe implied, the 1,600 baht was likely divided up between the visa run company and immigration.

My friend went there on 17 Feb 2020 to enter on non o ME. I just called him and he said he only paid 2000 baht to the visa company. No extras, no questions from immigration. Perhaps things have changed since then.

2000 baht is good, most charge around 2800 baht.

That is different crossing than the one being discussed.

The crossing is in Chanthaburi.
