The Education Ministry will distribute face masks to schools nationwide in an attempt to curb the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19) and protect students from the harmful PM2.5 particulate matter in the air, said Education Minister Nataphol Teepsuwan today (February 27).

An eight-year-old pupil of Phraharuthai Donmuang school in Bangkok has recently been tested positive for Covid-19 infection from his grandfather who had returned from a trip to Hokkaido, Japan.

Nataphol said he would instruct the Vocational Education Commission to collect the face masks for distribution to schools, adding that additional supplies were being prepared .

Meanwhile, high school students of grade 12 who are due to sit for the ordinary national educational test (O-NET) on February 29, will be required to face masks at the venues. Teachers should increase the frequency of screening students for symptoms of the virus and provide ample supply of hand gel, he said.

Students, parents, teachers who have returned from high-risk countries and territories - China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Italy, Iran, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan - are required to stay at home for 14 days while education personnel must obtain permission from their supervisors before going abroad, he added.

Confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Thailand stood at 40 as of today with 554 person under investigation or being tested for the virus.

Yep. End of term. Sure someone's 'friend' will profit. More tax payer money into the fat pockets of the corrupt.

In Thailand nobody understood up to now that masks don't prevent to catch up with the virus!!!!

Instead inform the people about the REAL facts they hide any information.

If i see what's going on in Europe i know in Thailand must be many many more people who are infected!!!!

Another minister who seeks fame with the help of the virus ...

and they mean 'handout' quite literally. This is a photo op that cannot be seen to go amiss.

Hand washing misses out to superficial gestures.
