Britain vows to drive hard bargain in U.S. trade talks

Yes, since they are the Democratically elected leaders I would expect them to make the final decision on behalf of their respective sovereign nations. That's how it works outside the EU.

Good luck with Congress even giving the Donald fast track trade authority...

Does anybody in the UK still believes that drivel? Which part about "size matters" don't they understand?

The USA and the Uk should make a deal. It could be a very good one. I am having a hard time figuring out how a small island nation that offers "financial services" offers the USA.

We already have enough Schwabs, Bloombergs and tawT flannel Inc. of our own. Any deal made by definition would favor Britain because I don't see what they bring to the table. That's okay the British are strong allies and a new deal would change things.

The idea of the Brits playing hardball is simply a fantasy.

Remember Britain and Europe,is America's first line of defence,

The UK does have a trump card, so to speak. Offer Der Donald a dukedom. Make him the Duke of Dumb and he'll give you anything you want.

Boris said on Saturday that he is prepared and ready to walk out of trade talks with the EU in June and then yesterday that if the USA don't adhere to Britain's red lines that he would pull out of trade talks with them as well.

Judging by the news that his girlfriend is pregnant and the fact that he has several children scattered around from earlier romances, I don't think that "pulling out" is something that Boris is very good at.

On which team is Boris? Maybe the C team on a good day?

The problem with the British government  is that they are desparate to get any trade deal so that they can show their brave citizens that something is happening. Imagine if one day those citizens will realize that the EU was the best deal they could possibly get - Boris government can't allow that to happen.

The problem with the EU and its devoted followers they see the UK as two timing them and will say anything negative to make themselves feel much happier. Freedom is more important to most citizens in the UK than "best deal" they could possibly get, your words.

The most important thing for the EU at the moment is making sure it stays afloat after we have left, you have lost some very important ballast with the UK leaving, make sure you don't lose any more.

The problem with many Brexiters is that they see everything like black and white. Like we win and you lose or the other way around.

Personally I would be happy if the EU is successful and the UK is successful and the USA is successful and many other countries.

Obviously the EU has a problem with less money coming in. And they are not happy about losing one important country in the EU.

But the EU will manage without the UK.

One big question is obviously what will happen with all the trade which is still going on between the UK and the EU. And all those just in time manufacturing processes. Will the EU still trade the same amount of goods with the UK next year? Will all those just in time productions stop? And where will the new just in time business partners be? In the UK? Probably not, because the UK wants to make that kind of business very difficult.

And where will the UK sell their goods if they don't want to use EU standards?

Obviously the UK can do everything it wants to do. But will the UK citizens feel better without all that business with the EU? I have my doubts.

And will the UK citizens feel comfortable when the UK is forced to import chlorinated chicken and buy expensive US pharma products to get a deal with the USA?

The "problem" in the word today is that every country has to work together and to trade with other countries. And to be able to do that they have to accept that there will be certain rules to work together. Pretending to take control only to find out that they have to make some compromises doesn't make this situation any better.

Sure you will.  Now that you are no longer part of the EU your bargaining power has stepped up tremendously.  Plus the US is a soft touch under Trump. In fact it may be better than China who have been a total failure in closing a deal with the US.

Yes, they are democratically elected.

But what gives you the idea that Boris and Donald will make fair and sensible decisions on behalf of their sovereign nations?

Who will explain the words fair and sensible to them? And how high is the chance that they will understand the meaning of those words?

I'd much rather have Boris or Donald than the unelected failure that is Von der Leyen. Or unelected alcoholic Juncker who has thankfully vacated. Or unelected "special place in 'ell" Tusk who has also packed his bags. Or unelected nutjob Verhofstadt who is unfortunately still there showing how completely unhinged he is.

But then, I believe in Democracy unlike the Europhiles.

You think linking the Parthenon marbles to a FTA is fair and sensible? The EU is a circus, thank God we're out and I can sit back and amuse myself with the fact that all the bitter anti-democratic losers can do about it is complain and whinge about it on forums while mine and my fellow countrymen's instructions are carried out by a legend like Boris ????????

And that's why the USA has a closed mind to anything healthy. Follow their SAD diet and welcome an early death by heart attack, stokes or cancer. Which is the reality of this over-obese nation.

and growing up in a bar is healthy? lol

An entirely predictable response. I will continue to post as I see fit; inc exposing hypocrisy among trolls whenever necessary.

The Americans can get in line. The Australian FTA is first up. Some of the world’s most efficient farmers.

Like give the US the veto of any future UK deals with non market countries they are asking for.

Flame grilled Koala isn't that popular in the UK.????

Seriously though, one minute we're going to have empty shelves and starve to death, the next minute our local farming industry is going to be decimated by the huge influx of cheap food imports from the other side of the world. Make your minds up .

Show me where I said the shelves are going to be empty?

I do question wisdom of mentioning selling Scottish smoked salmon, or is that to appease the Scots who want to leave the leavers aka UK.

Pressing question is: will Boris fit beneath bus Donald will throw him under? Now that UK has exited EU, no more reason for Trump to play chum with Boris. Do remember

"America first. It will always be America first" per Donald

Its not really about who needs who more than anyone....why not not just sell and buy what each other wants, its quite simple...I loved Europe when you would change your Sterling to Francs, Drachma or Pesos and drink some of the best wine in the world, visit the most beautiful islands and eat stifado or have paella and sangria for breakfast...why so much animosity...its a small world, let's just all get on together like friends and family.

Even though the American students don’t want to pick the fruit in their own country! Might have to include Mexico as part of the deal to make it work...

What is so difficult about seeing reality and accepting reality?

Brexit done? 555 Imagine you are married for 20 years with lots of kids and you just signed the divorce papers. Is now everything "basically done". Or is that likely just the start of the headache?

Do you follow the news? Because if you do that then I don't have to tell you why the UK is worse off - even under the best now possible conditions.

How's Mickey mouseville faring without u$?
