Heartbreaking footage shows a monkey being forced to lift weights and do press-ups while training to entertain tourists.

The abused primate was recorded by animal rights group, PETA, last month at a zoo in Thailand's tourism hot-spot Phuket, which is popular with British holidaymakers.

The campaign group's undercover footage shows a handler forcing the monkey, named Ning Nong, to lift metal weights above its head and do sit-ups.

The monkey then has to slam-dunk balls into a net, ride a bicycle, stand on a tiny wooden stool and do press-ups.

It has a metal collar and appears to be in distress while it is dragged around the squalid building in temperatures higher than 30C.

I would swap them around for a change and get the handler do tricks while the monkey collect the money and see how he would like it...

healthy body, healthy mind or something like that... I must say my wifes the boss round ere and im forced to do tricks well above 30degrees daily. Am i being abused?

Jokes aside, monkeys should be back in the wild, road side stealing things and smoking cigarettes like the rest!

isn't there a cabinet reshuffle coming soon

It is not just the monkey, that whole zoo is a utter disgrace and should be forced shut.

Looks healthy, well groomed and well fed.

I would save my sympathy for the mangy starving soi dogs.

He should be out in the fresh air, climbing trees for Coconuts,

but that's where he probably came from after Europe stopped

buying Coconut products due to abuse of monkeys forced to

climb and collect the nuts.

The same thing was done a long time ago at those pityful and abusive Flea Circuses.  I heard that the fleas got oiled every day but were never given anything to eat and were forced to live in a matchbox.

Otherwise it would've been an honest job but slam dunking balls sounds positively evil. Autsch.

These shows with similar degrading acts have been going on for at least the last 20 years or so. So why have the animal lovers not complained ?

UK Daily Mirror recently show a picture of a baby elephant here in Thailand with its front legs chained together and a box nearby for tourists to give money !!
