Female prisoners to produce face masks

Inmates at five state prisons for females will help produce face masks for sales at low price, said Minister of Justice Somsak Thepsutin on Tuesday (March 3).

 

The five prisons involved in the project are the Central Women Correctional Institution and four others located in Buri Ram, Chai Nat, Kamphaeng Phet, and Chiang Mai.

 

"The face masks can only be used by people who are not infected. They can be ordered in bulk at cheaper price from all five prisons,” he said.

 

“The Director-General of the Department of Corrections has been ordered to control the quality of products and coordinate with the Ministry of Public Health in production orders and public relations,” he said. 

 

Prisons are a close place, but measures are in place to prevent an outbreak by screening inmates and sanitising areas. “Also, we urged people to wash their hands regularly,” he added.

what would be the chance the masks come already infected with something

 

and only for use with uninfected - doesn't that then include everyone in Thailand excluding 11 known infected people ?

 

The deeper someone digs a lying hole the more lies they need to tell and the farther they will have to climb out of it.

Are these masks that can actually stop a virus passing through or are they the useless cloth ones on general sale?

Prisons are a close place, .. Full marks for observational skills there ..

Screening visitors might be advantageous also as they are on the outside .. and remind those to wash there mitt's as well ..

It would help too if they put their hands over their mouths when coughing and sneezing,  and stop spitting in the streets

how do they keep coming up with these weird ideas. Is it just a case of saving some money because i dont see how this would be even considerable.

Who will do the quality control? The guards? 

Yeah, because there is little difference between a 3M sterile environment and a women prison.

 

Makes sense.

They'd need to sterilize them before shipping .. this being Thailand what are the odds of that happening. I'll stick with staying home and using brand N95 masks if I have to mingle with the general population.

Wonderful, with all due respect to the female population in these prisons, first they will need to learn about basic personal hygiene.

In other words, this is the second to last worst place to have masks made. The worst place is on the men's side!
