WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump said on Friday that Republican U.S. Representative Mark Meadows will become White House chief of staff.

Meadows will replace Mick Mulvaney, who will become U.S. special envoy to Northern Ireland, Trump said.

"I have long known and worked with Mark, and the relationship is a very good one," Trump said on Twitter.

Meadows announced in December he would not run for re-election this year in his North Carolina district.

A close ally of Trump, Meadows chaired the conservative House Freedom Caucus from 2017-2019.

Mulvaney was named acting chief of staff in December 2018 and Trump never made the appointment permanent.

"I want to thank Acting Chief Mick Mulvaney for having served the Administration so well. He will become the United States Special Envoy for Northern Ireland," Trump said.

He needs to spend some time with VP Pence for some OJT.  No one rivals Mr. Pence in the kissing a$s department.

Does this mean that Mulvaney will give up his additional position as Director of OMB (Office of Management and Budget)? Or will he continue to wear two hats and run the OMB from Northern Ireland? Blimey this is confusing stuff.

Lmao.... from chief of staff to backwaters envoy... the trump game is an adults version of snakes and ladders... down the snakes back slides mick mulvaney, another casualty of trumps malignant administration. ????????????

A few regular contributors are conspicuous by their lack of comments supporting Potus and the Republicans.Maybe and hopefully they have woken up that 16000+ lies and deceptive statements highlight a lack of honesty and ability to run the country representing ALL people not just the 1% who control 80% of the wealth.

Well, it seems Trump's tweets factory had a low production level recently. It may explain what you observed.

Trump is a shrewd businessman and a loyal patriot...unlike other several other past presidents.  Mark Meadows will be great until he isn't just like all of us.

Only problem is trying to determine which country he is a loyal patriot of, not to mention,  the six bankruptcies the shrewd businessman has been involved with

Naw, speaking for myself, I am just bored with the same old same old derangement, the election is a few months away and hopefully that will shut folks up so PresTrump can really get stuff done. China is reeling and the iron is hot, this will be as good as the Reagan years.

PS, you forgot to mention Russia. Was that just an oversight, or have we seen the last of that....?

Hallo Sujo, I am looking on the bright side and that's why I think Trump is ok for American people. If they want him to be the president, that's it. Hope he will not start any war. There is no politician who is very nice, very open and truly honest. And Trump is not worse than others. But we shouldn't be bothered so much with all of this, enjoy in pleasant things instead, and have a nice day

It is strange you equate repeated bankruptcies with being shrewd. Hmm..I guess trump university is sort of shrewd..take money from people..give nothing of value in return...then litigate and settle the fraud charges without admitting guilt but paying a settlement less than the amount stolen. Or steal money from a charity then settle fraud charges for less than the amount stolen!! Hey that is shrewd.

And defining self-centered psychopathy as patriotism! Now that is shrewd. The stable genius is clever.

It appears the pro trolls don't work Sundays and Mondays, noticed this a while back.

Log in Tuesday for the usual name calling, personal attacks, diversions and off-the-wall alternative facts.

My guess is it has something to do with the Sunday political talk shows in the US, and the planned chatter takes off from there.  You might recall last week it was all about the coronavirus hoax, how the Dems want it to spread, even Don Jr was let out of the cellar for that one.

I haven't been that impressed with Chuck Todd, but he gets a gold star for his sit-down with Pence on this matter; Pence saying all the Dems want the virus to spread, Todd asked for articles or quotes, Pence dodged, Todd kept pressing, and the best Pence could off was this.

Chuck responded "well, that's not everybody!"  Credit where credit is due.  He's picking up where Matthews left, keep riding their backside until they answer.
