This relates to me taking my golf group for Suki Yaki lunch at Dtee Noy Suki before I leave them for the summer.

เนื่องจากช่วงนี้มีการระบาดของไวรัส โควิก - 19 ได้ปรีกษากับหลายคนรวมริชชี มีความเห็นว่า สมควรเลื่อนการนัดกินสุกีตี๋น้อย ออกไปก่อน ถ้าสถานการณ์เข้าปกติเราจะไปกินกันแน่นอน

ได้ used to show past perfect tense, omitting the subject (ผม)is normal.

I am never sure of the difference between ร่วม and รวม they are both verbs in Thai. รวม the conjunction 'and ' fits best for me,  I would be interested in other ideas.

ริชชี is how he has spelt my name.

When he called to discuss it I said ยกเลิก and he corrected me saying เลื่อนไป so because of that I felt that จะไปกินกันแน่นอน was vague and would have said หลังจากเรจจีกลับแล้ว to reassure the caddies.

However the context is that I am the host so กินกัน includes me on my return; maybe me returning is สถานการรณ์กลับเข้าปรกติ also!

โควิก โควิด is a typo.

Thank you for posting, Tgeezer. One question: What is "สุกีตี๋น้อย"?

The name of the restaurant. ชื่อร้านสุกี้ คือตี๋น้อย

I have just found ตี๋ in longdo it means Chinese boy.

Mr. Geezer,

You seem to have a pretty good level of aptitude with the written Thai language.

If I might ask, how well are you able to hear this language?    By "hearing" it, I'm not really talking about comprehending the types of questions that Thai people tend to ask farlang  (mah tahm ah-lai, mah jah bra-tate ah-lai, yoo gee bpee, etc.). I'm talking about listening in and comprehending conversations between Thai persons.

And if you are able to understand native Thai conversations, about how many years did you need to acquire this skill ?

I wish you wouldn't use "farlang". There is a perfectly good word for it in English: farang.

We do not want to see dozens of different spellings on this forum based on members' perception of how their Thai friends pronounce this word, do we?

i agree. sadly 'falang' is used condescendingly be people on this site in reference to the quite common thai pronunciation of 'r' as 'l', and, no doubt, intended as a veiled criticism.

i'd bet the vast majority of people who indulge in this patronising behavior are not the most precise pronouncers of thai words.

BananaBandit. I have been visiting Thailand for over thirty years.  I have studied the written language since learning the writing system from the beginning. It is only the past fifteen years of retirement when I have been able to spend five months each year in Thailand that I have noticed much improvement. My focus has to be on the written word and that, not very much. I think that it is a very difficult thing to learn a foreign language conversationally, one needs to go to school and practise ‘stock phrases’ to recognise third parties saying them.  I don’t do that; I am not sure that I would have understood the message that I quoted if it was a ‘phone call.
