The Thailand Meteorological Department forecast on Saturday (March 14) that a thermal low covers upper Thailand, causing hot to very hot weather in the regions. Meanwhile, the weak easterly winds across the Gulf bring thundershowers to the South.

The department also mentioned a high-pressure system from China extends to upper Vietnam and Gulf of Tonkin, and will cover upper Laos and the South China Sea on Saturday. As a result, from March 14-17, the South and the southeasterly winds will bring humidity from the South China Sea to the lower Northeast, the East, the Central and the lower North regions. This will also bring about outbreaks of thunderstorms, gusty winds in some areas and isolated hail in the Eastern region.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours is as follows:

Northern region: Hot to very hot in some areas; temperature lows of 17-24 degrees and highs of 38-42 degrees Celsius.

Northeastern region: Hot to very hot during the day with isolated rains in 10 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 21-26 degrees and highs of 37-40 degrees Celsius.

Central region: Hot to very hot in many areas; temperature lows of 24-27 degrees, highs of 37-40 degrees Celsius.

Eastern region: Hot to very hot in some areas with isolated thundershowers in 20 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 25-28 degrees, highs of 33-39 degrees Celsius; waves under a metre high.

Southern region (east coast): Partly cloudy with isolated thundershowers in 10 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 23-28 degrees, highs of 33-36 degrees Celsius; waves under a metre high.

Southern region (west coast): Partly cloudy with isolated thundershowers in 10 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 23-27 degrees, highs of 34-38 degrees Celsius; waves under a metre high.

Bangkok and surrounding areas: Hot to very hot in some areas; temperature lows of 26-28 degrees, highs of 35-40 degrees Celsius.
